ACT TWO: SCENE TWO
(Mike and Johnson at his Uncle’s
house in the city)
Mike and Johnson sit together on a chair while his uncle sits opposite,
facing them with a bottle of red wine and a glass cup on his table. He pours a
little wine inside the cup and takes a sip
UNCLE
Mike said you gained an admission
into study law in the University of Lagos
JOHNSON
Yes sir, (he said with his two
hands in front between his trouser).
UNCLE: Where are you parents?
JOHNSON
My father is blind and my mother
sells beans cake in the village
UNCLE
It’s alright. I will assist you
provided you face your studies and you keep way from bad companies
JOHNSON
I will, sir (he said almost
stammering while Mike gives him a cheerful look).
UNCLE
It’s alright. Tomorrow I will
drive you to the school and get all your fees paid.
JOHNSON
Thank you, sir (he portraits)
UNCLE
Stand up. You see the difference
between the rich and the poor is luck and not work. It is a privilege to do
this to you. Who knows tomorrow?
JOHNSON
Thank you, sir.
MIKE
Thank you, uncle.
UNCLE
Make yourself comfortable (he leaves)
MIKE
I told you. My uncle is a nice
man.
He is really nice o. I can’t
believe it. Just like that?
MIKE
Yes o, just that that (they
rejoice)
ACT TWO: SCENE THREE
(School
campus)
There are students from various departments
walking to and fro with their pals, friends and course mates. Some sit under
the trees in the school campus. SOALA and her friend walk in with their
notebooks on her hands. As they are passing by, Johnson and his friend see them
from a long distance. Johnson immediately falls in love. He stands still
admiring and day dreaming. Johnson carries SOALA on his laps under the tree).
JOHNSON
I’m going to spend all the rest
of my life with you.
SOALA
You wouldn't stop loving me,
would you?
JOHNSON
How could I? I have the most
beautiful girl in my bosom.
SOALA
With years, this beauty will fade
away, so if you love me simply because of my beauty, then you must be making a
big fool of yourself.
JOHNSON
Of course not, I really love you,
not only because of your beauty.
SOALA
So, tell me what else you do love
about me?
JOHNSON
Okay, listen my girl, beauty is
just one of the five “B's’ men want in women. There are other four ‘B's”
SOALA
Like…….
JOHNSON
behavior, breast, buttocks, and brilliancy.
SOALA
Gush!You are naughty!
JOHNSON
I agree with you that with age, your
beauty may not be the same, likewise your breast and buttocks, but your
behavior and brilliancy will forever be the same because that is what makes the
real you and I’m in love with the real you.
SOALA
You sound like a lecturer and a
lover boy.
JOHNSON
My girl, just give me a kiss (she
draws closer to kiss him, then Johnson hears Mike calling his name)
MIKE
Johnson!
JOHNSON
She kissed me
MIKE
So, you have been day dreaming. She
had left over thirty minutes ago and you claimed she kissed you.
JOHNSON
Mike, I will marry that girl.
MIKE
(Laughs).She won’t even agree to
be your friend, let alone marrying you. I can see you are still day dreaming.
JOHNSON
(Soliloquizing)
Beauty, breast, buttocks,
behavior and brilliancy………….. (Mike cuts in)
MIKE
Are you still going to the
library or you want to continue your day dreaming? {He walks away, while
Johnson follows him reluctantly.}
